What I’m Into
It’s easier to say what genres I don’t read than to list the ones I do. I don’t much care for self-help or memoir, and any book that masquerades as standard nonfiction but is actually self-help or memoir has made an enemy of me!
What I’m REALLY Into
That said, I do have my preferences. I love a near-future sci-fi, rigorously researched (and footnoted) historical nonfiction, and vampire books where the vampires are so scary, I can’t sleep at night.
What I’m Trying to Get Into
I’d like to expand my horizons with graphic novels and short stories. I gravitate towards chunky doorstoppers, but I’m willing to apply the scientific method to the saying ‘Brevity is the soul of wit’.
My values
I’m a leftist bi black woman in New York City so you can bet your last dollar I’m pro LGBTQIA, pro abortion, pro social safety net, pro prison and police reform, pro-Palestine, pro DEI, and pro punching fascists in the face. You have been warned.
Boycott Amazon
We can all do our part to limit Amazon’s power over our lives. Shop for books at your local bookstore, at Bookshop.org (books and e-books), Libro.FM (for audiobooks), and of course, check out something from your library. StoryGraph is an excellent alternative to Goodreads. DVDs are an excellent alternative to Amazon Prime (bring back physical media and own the things you pay for!) Do one or all of these things to make a small change in this big, big world! This is the only preachy moment you’ll find on my blog, I swear!
